During the last week of term 3, the Council of Sustainability participated in the annual, Amnesty-run service market, to raise funds to fund financial activities throughout the rest of the year. The Council ran a bake sale with a variety of foods such as cookies, brownies, and cupcakes, that members made, all sold at $2. Bake sales have historically been a hit amongst the Krsitin community, and our stall was no exception, overall the Council made $122 in 30 minutes.
Moreover, the market had a sustainability aim with Kristin’s fabulous Waste Team continuing their work monitoring the bins and waste, adopting similar techniques from the Council of Sustainability’s waste guidelines from the summer carnival. Furthermore, their stall adopted a ‘bring your own container’ scheme in which they gave out a free spring roll for a BYO serving tray, incentivising students to focus on waste reduction. Well done Waste Team!
Overall, the service market was not only extremely successful for the Council of Sustainability but also showcased the joint effort of the sustainable groups at Kristin, with the Council working closely with Amnesty and the Waste Team to ensure sustainability all around.
Below are some photos of the Waste Team hard at work to continue the sustainable activities of the event:
