At the beginning of the year, the Council of Sustainability (CoS) realised that students and families are asked to buy an immense amount of stationery that isn’t used throughout the school year. After drafting a project idea, we presented it to the principals at an advisory board meeting, and the board of governors during their March meeting.Â
‍
After we garnered a great deal of support from the two groups, we decided to target the Middle School. We surveyed the students and found that science, English, and humanities were the biggest culprits of unused stationery! We then surveyed students again, asking them which exact items from these three subjects they weren’t using. After getting statistics for each individual item, we drafted a proposal to Mrs Pollard and the Heads of Faculty. We proposed items that we recommended should be removed from the list to cut down on waste and cost, and highlighted which ones we recommended be kept. We then sent this proposal through to Mrs Pollard who forwarded it to the Heads of Faculty.
‍
Our proposal was met with a lot of support and we are happy to announce that all three subjects will be altering their stationery lists to be more environmentally and economically sustainable!
