Junior School Students at Kristin School Explore Solar Panels and Sustainability

June 9, 2024

Recently, Yr 5 students at Kristin School had the chance to learn about renewable energy by exploring the school's solar panel installations. This hands-on experience aimed to teach them the importance of sustainability. Kristin School has been a leader in sustainability, including the installation of solar panels through the "Lightbox Project" initiated in 2019. The school has since expanded its solar energy capabilities, working with Total Utilities to monitor energy savings and carbon footprint reduction. During their visit, the students learned how solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, contributing to the school's goal of becoming carbon neutral. They were introduced to the "Power Radar" dashboard, which provides real-time data on solar energy generation. This interactive session allowed them to see how much energy is produced and how it reduces reliance on non-renewable sources. This initiative is part of Kristin School's broader commitment to sustainability, including projects like rainwater harvesting and composting systems. These efforts are part of the school's journey towards achieving Green-Gold Enviroschool status. By engaging with the solar panels, the students not only learned about renewable energy but also gained a deeper understanding of their role in protecting the environment. This experience is expected to inspire them to think critically about sustainability and participate in future environmental initiatives at Kristin School.
