In Year 8, we do a unit named Debate of our Time. In this unit, we look into different global issues and the causes, consequences, solutions and barriers to these global issues. At the end of the term, we produce a short documentary highlighting the different aspects of these complex global issues.
First, we chose a global issue from a list. This can be fossil fuels, overfishing, palm oil, deforestation, plastic in our oceans, water or any other global issue that we cleared with our teachers. We then had 5 periods to research our chosen topics and cite different sources that we used. Afterwards, we wrote a script that persuaded the audience to take action on these important issues. We were fortunate enough to film on the green screen in the Cloud Suite. This provided an opportunity to use Camtasia, which is a video editing software.
Overall, I have found this unit very informative and it has inspired me to take action on these issues. I hope that other people will also be inspired and together, we can address these issues and hopefully solve them.
